Former Detective Sues Montgomery County Sheriff Over Firing

Ranny D.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio sheriff's detective fired for sending what the sheriff said were racially charged cell phone texts has sued the sheriff and others, alleging invasion of privacy and other violations.

Former Detective Michael Sollenberger filed the lawsuit Friday in a county court in Dayton. The lawsuit against Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer and others also alleges unauthorized use of property and unlawful search and seizure.

Messages seeking comment were left at the sheriff's office.

Sollenberger's lawsuit seeks more than $25,000 in compensatory damages, an order barring further dissemination of cell phone information and other relief.

Sollenberger and a captain were fired in February after an investigation into accusations of inappropriate text conversations on personal cellphones. Authorities said the texts included racial slurs and comments directed at two black deputies.
