Premier Health and the University of Dayton say 42 groups and more than 600 people contributed more than 1,300 ideas for the fairgrounds redevelopment project.

Officials with Premier Health and the University of Dayton say the planned redevelopment of the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds site may take up to several decades. The two organizations that own the 38 acres of land have issued a joint statement saying it could take, “15 to 20 years to achieve the full vision,” of redevelopment.

Premier and UD say in the next 12 to 24 months they’ll be reaching out to potential “funding sources” that could help with development phases involving, “roadways, utilities, water and sewer and selective demolition of existing structures.”

They are also forming a governing body to oversee day-to-day operations as the project moves forward.

A preliminary vision of the site between Patterson Blvd. and Main Street in Dayton was released in January. Plans still include mixed-income housing, public spaces and green space, along with office and retail space.
